Brief thoughts on the Oscar nominees

I’m not going to start really caring until mid February when I’ve gotten the chance to see everything I want to see (I haven’t seen much at all yet)

And tbh I only care because I love picking a movie that resonates with me and rooting for it whether it wins or not.

And I was going into this thinking “Okay I loved Hugo and I loved Drive so I’m going to root for them until I see something better” but then Drive was snubbed for no real reason (???) So I guess I’m rooting for Hugo until I get around to watching the others that I’m interested in…

The Artist,  The Descendants, War Horse, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Rango

Why was Shame snubbed, btw? Haven’t seen it, but all signs point to it being incredible…

I’m pretty happy that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo got nods because it was just so damn beautiful to look at and with some strong performances and a killer soundtrack, even if I found the murder mystery part of the story not so compelling… The HP nerd in me is excited for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 getting some recognition. I thought Midnight in Paris was a pretty sweet, charming little flick but nothing I would buy on dvd or nominate for best picture. Idk.

I need to watch more.
